The outer hull is made from okoume marine-grade plywood, and the inner supports are eastern white cedar, with holes cut in them to make the boat as light as possible and still maintain strength. The cutaway in the cockpit allows the driver to lean out on turns.

It was only 8 feet long and I clocked it at 33 mph with a 9.8 hp Mercury outboard. It was a 3/8 plywd bottom and 1/4 plywd deck and sponsons. Virtually no internal frame except to mount the wheel.

Hmm, a vessel that would legitimately be categorized as a scow that had enough freeboard to provide a get-down-inside-it cockpit would be an interesting craft in an 18 foot incarnation. Most scows I've ever seen are necessarily of low freeboard, particularly in the popular one design classes.
